Dog Chap was abandoned after years and ended up in the animal shelter.

However, his condition was too bad.

Many animal lovers mourn on Facebook.

Nuremberg - "Sometimes we can't do more than accompany you on your final journey," writes the Nuremberg animal shelter in a photo on Facebook - and then addresses its words directly to the dog.

“Dear Chap, after many years you were simply abandoned.

Unfortunately, your condition was so bad that we couldn't do more for you than let you go today."

Take care little guy, get over the rainbow bridge safely,” reads a comment on the Facebook post.

“Such a lovely guy.........I don't understand people like that......I'm always with my animals until the last breath.....that's the least you can do and must,” says one woman.

Many thank the animal shelter for their commitment.

Over 200 people commented on the post, almost 100 shared it and over 1,600 people reacted to it.
