On Wednesday (March 27th) Rudi Cerne will present the 600th issue of “Aktenzeichen XY” – one case in particular remains in his memory over the years.

Munich – With “Das Traumschiff” or “Der Bergdoktor”, ZDF likes to rely on tried and tested formats in its planning, but hardly any program has been as successful as “Aktenzeichen XY ... unsolved” in the public broadcaster’s program: it has been running since 1967 TV series successful and has dealt with more than 5000 criminal cases during this time.

Moderator Rudi Cerne (65) has never forgotten one of them.

“Case number XY” still helps: ZDF series also provided important clues in “Carnival Murder”.

The former figure skater has been the face of “Aktenzeichen XY” since 2002 and will be appearing in the 600th episode of the ZDF wanted format next Wednesday (March 27th).

The series has been successful for years, not only achieving the best ratings, but also new investigation results.

A good 39 percent of the cases shown were solved - and in some cases even years later.

Best example: The so-called “carnival murder” of 24-year-old Petra Nohl in Cologne.

In 1988, the young woman was strangled by an unknown attacker after visiting a discotheque on Carnival Sunday.

The terrible act could only be solved 35 years later - the crucial clue came from a “file number XY” viewer after the case had been reconstructed there in December 2022.

Only recently, at the beginning of March, the perpetrator, now 57, was sentenced to life in prison.

“Aktenzeichen XY” moderator Rudi Cerne reveals: This case was particularly close to him

This cruel crime was particularly close to Rudi Cerne, also because Petra Nohl and her spouse had a daughter who was just 18 months old at the time: “Such cases must not be forgotten: time does not heal these wounds.

This is particularly clear in the case of Petra Nohl: her husband never got over her violent death - either way.

The crime was also always present for Petra Nohl's daughter.

The tragedy not only affects the victims, but also their families for the rest of their lives,” reports the moderator at

The sports journalist is only too aware of how important the work surrounding “File Number XY” can be: “There is no such thing as a perfect murder: Years later, using the latest methods, a DNA trace can be extracted from a tiny trace of fibers that convicts the murderer .” However, viewers have had to do without another favorite of the show since the end of last year: Alfred Hettmer (69) celebrated an emotional “File Number XY” farewell.
