Actually there should be two bio-toilets.

But because the Leader funding has now been canceled, the Bayrischzell local council has decided to initially only purchase one of the waterless houses.

It should be at the Geitau hiking car park.

Bayrischzell

– The Bayrischzell local council decided to purchase two bio-toilets for the municipal hiking parking spaces last year.

However, under the condition that the district-wide Oberland Regional Development (REO) project is supported by Leader funds.

But this hope was dashed, reported Mayor Georg Kittenrainer (CSU): “The project has failed, everything has come to nothing.” The municipality of Bayrischzell now faces the question of how it would like to proceed.

Two bio-toilets planned for hiking parking spaces

“Do we do the whole thing without funding, watch for a year how it works in other communities, or do we just buy an organic toilet?” Kittenrainer presented the options.

The cost of a waterless and chemical-free toilet without subsidies is 4,000 euros.

In June 2023, the local council decided to purchase two houses: one for the Geitauer hiking car park, one for the seasonal change between the Schwerer Gatter and the Tannerfeld.

Bayrischzell disagrees about toilet location

Tourism director Stefanie Hintermayr wanted to continue with the project despite the difficult budget situation.

“The demand is there,” she emphasized.

She also suggested different options for cleaning: by the manufacturer - either twice a week for 200 euros a month or monthly for 75 euros - or by an external company that comes by as needed and would also cost around 200 euros a month.

Discussion in the local council: drop-off and pick-up service?

Klaus Weilbach (CSU) didn't think a blanket offer made much sense: "That doesn't get us anywhere." The utilization of the hiking parking spaces and the organic toilets depends heavily on the season and the weather.

Hintermayr found the “full service”, i.e. two days a week, to be “a good deal”.

In addition, the local building yard could “keep an eye on it” and report any additional cleaning needs.

Willy Kravanja (non-party) rejected Florian Müller's (non-party) suggestion to ask a nearby “well-frequented inn” to rent its toilets for “amount X” to the public: “I think the people in the parking lot have to go directly on site.” Lukas Bucher (FWG) was bothered by the fact that the community had to buy the organic toilets.

He would prefer a drop-off and pick-up service per season.

“Then you always get one that is in top condition.”

Community wants to try out organic toilet in Geitau

Vice Mayor Egid Stadler (CSU) suggested trying it out at the hiking car park in Geitau.

However, he advised against the second location at Tannerhof because, in his opinion, organic toilets were not suitable for children.

“Using a shovel and sawdust to put everything away is a science in itself.” Hintermayr tried to dispel the concerns.

So she looked at an organic toilet at a children's playground in Holzkirchen.

“The little children used them on their own and as a matter of course.”

In addition to Stadler, Kittenrainer also favored the heavily frequented Geitau hiking car park location.

“There are sometimes hundreds of people there.” That’s why he suggested purchasing a bio-toilet there as well.

As far as cleaning is concerned, the tourist information office should make arrangements for this.

The administration provides a budget of around 2,400 euros per year for this purpose.

The local council unanimously followed the proposed resolution.

Kittenrainer: “Nobody knows whether it will be a flop after five years.

Therefore: try it out!”
