The Oberallgäu district office in Sonthofen is bursting at the seams.

A number of departments have long since been “outsourced” to external buildings in the city.

With the purchase of the Sparkasse building, the opportunity for “expansion” arose.

A footbridge across the street will now connect the two houses.

Sonthofen

– The building application is still pending with the city of Sonthofen.

But construction of the connecting walkway between the district office and the savings bank building should begin soon.

The first district administration offices have already been set up there.

The extended corridor at a dizzying height above the street is primarily intended to help avoid working hours, i.e. internal travel times, for employees.

Outsourced departments should be gradually “brought back”.

The district treasurer had supported the Steg solution in his cost calculation.

Things weren't quite as quick and uncomplicated as the planners and architects had initially imagined.

“We were thinking of a small jetty;

“But the project turned out to be complicated,” said architect Claus-Peter Kroiss, describing the development.

Fire protection aspects in particular slowed down the project and the load distribution.

The simple, compact wooden cladding of the 22 meter long footbridge did not meet with the approval of the Sonthof design advisory board.

“But we have now found a pragmatic solution,” said Kroiss again optimistically when he presented the status of the planning to the district committee for construction and digitalization.

The fire protection concerns were allayed when the “bridge” enclosure was now to be designed as a combination of wooden elements and glass.

The window elements can also be opened and must be cleaned from the inside.

The problem of statics could also be solved by cleverly placing a support near the facade of the savings bank building.

After all, the 22 meter long steel structure weighs around 46 tons.

The solution ultimately approved was discussed intensively for a quarter of a year, says Kroiss.

The bridge should be finished in the fall

It can start as early as May.

The footbridge should be finished by autumn.

Building a bridge over Richard-Wagner-Straße costs almost half a million euros.

“This means we are almost within the budgeted budget,” says Kroiss.

A smaller sum may be added if the structure is equipped with a photovoltaic system.

The committee largely approved the continuation of the planning and ultimately the construction of the footbridge.

Only Blaichach's mayor, Christof Endreß, refused to change his mind and stuck to his no, after refusing to approve the district council's decision to build such a bridge a year ago.

“I'm sticking with it.

I'm against it."
