When people indulge in “Hidalgobashing”
The painful erosion of the Socialist Party
On the evening of April 10, 2022, Anne Hidalgo received a sledgehammer.
The mayor of Paris, candidate for the Élysée, achieved the lowest score in the history of the Socialist Party in the presidential election: 1.7%.
Worse, in her own Parisian stronghold, the elected official only received 2.17% of the votes, or 22,828 votes.
The culmination of a political erosion of the PS on a national but also local scale.
After the gradual conquest of districts initiated in 1995 by Bertrand Delanoë leading to the arrival of the left at City Hall in 2001, the PS has continued to lose ground since the election of Anne Hidalgo in 2014.
