The past year put the youth and social work sponsoring association to the test.
Despite job cuts, a lot was still achieved.

- When it comes to youth and social affairs, hardly anyone in the city has a better eye on developments than the Youth and Social Work Association (TVJA).
How many places the current 40 employees and volunteers are involved can once again be seen in the annual report for 2023, which chairwoman Kerstin Halba, managing director Rudi Mühlhans and his deputy Angela Heim presented in a conversation with our newspaper.

“Participation for all” was the motto for 2023
“We are proud of what our employees have done for the citizens over the past year,” said Mühlhans.
These include, for example, the anniversary events in the two youth centers Saftladen (40 years) and Ein-Stein (20 years), the mobile games, the meeting parties in the neighborhoods and the Children and Youth Day - organized together with the city.
The main theme of the year was “Participation for all”.
All citizens were invited to the storytelling cafés and the first “Dinner in colorful” at Neuer Platz.
The TVJA also took part in the U18 election and supported the youth council election.

Offers of school support could be expanded
The sponsoring association was again in high demand for both open and tied all-day care at schools.
He was able to expand his offerings in school support.
Nine employees there now look after students in need of support.
Angela Heim said that the psychological effects of the corona pandemic were noticeable among many students.
The club does not yet know whether it will employ its own mobile youth workers
The past year was not only positive for the board and management.
As reported, the city has decided to create its own positions for mobile youth work and asylum assistance.
For the TVJA, this means that it no longer receives enough money for these areas to provide the necessary staff.
Patrick Schmook, who previously worked as a street worker for the club, now works as such in the Office for Family, Social Affairs and Sport.
“We don’t yet know whether we will employ an additional, mobile youth worker of our own,” says Mühlhans.

“Integration active” will not be continued
According to Mayor Michael Müller, the Office for Asylum and Integration should be filled by the middle of the year.
The “Integration Active” (IAG) coordination office, which has been part of the sponsoring association for the past twelve years, cannot therefore be continued for financial and personnel reasons.
“We will of course continue to strive for integration at all levels,” emphasized Halba.
Mayor Müller addresses the differences in his greeting to the TJJA annual report and speaks of “necessary adjustments” that have to be made again and again.
Mühlhans makes no secret of the fact that the loss of IAG hurts the club.
He also regrets that Ulrich Reiner will be taking early retirement in April.
