Benediktbeuren early swimmers are defending themselves: with a list of signatures, they protested against the shortened Alpine warm pool opening times.

Benediktbeuern – The decision by the municipality of Benediktbeuern to shorten the opening times of the Alpine warm bath is not met with understanding by all citizens.

Town hall boss Anton Ortlieb (BVV) accepted a list of signatures from early swimmers before the start of the most recent municipal council meeting.

With the start of the new bathing season, the Alpine warm pool will only open at 12 p.m. instead of the previous 10 a.m. on weekdays - with the exception of public holidays and the Bavarian holidays (we reported).

Increased personnel costs alongside the difficulty of finding staff at all ultimately led to this decision.

According to Helmut Patay, one of the campaigners, 132 people signed, a number “that would have been much higher if we had had more time”.

The Alpenwarmbad is such a beautiful swimming pool, “and we’re basically closing it.”

The “severe impairment” does not only affect older people who would otherwise like to go swimming in the morning.

He knows of landlords who would like their guests to be able to use the swimming pool in the morning hours, as well as parents with children who do not attend a daycare center.

The town hall boss insisted that the swimmers could not supervise themselves, even if there were less than a handful in the pool.

He could definitely understand the displeasure of those present about the reduction in opening times.

However, “we are happy to be able to provide supervisors and specialists for the coming season.” There is still a lack of staff for the cash register.

Opening at 12 p.m. is not only “unwise, but harmful”.

The community should find out about possible subsidies.

Ortlieb countered that the local council was currently discussing the upcoming budget.

“We’ll just manage to do that this year, but probably not next year.”

The topic of the Alpine warm pool also came up at the most recent local council meeting

The curse of inflation is that communities feel it with a delay of around a year and a half.

“It’s better than raising the admission prices again,” said Ortlieb, defending the shortened opening hours.

As treasurer Florian Hlawatsch explained during the budget discussions, the expected deficit of the outdoor pool this year, including depreciation, will be 572,100 euros.

The topic was also on the council’s mind at the subsequent meeting.

The third mayor Margarete Steffens (CSU) said whether creative solutions should not have been found.

Hans-Otto Pielmeier (CSU) suggested opening individual mornings.

Rudi Mühlhans (FBM) recommended “using the positive energy” and suggested a meeting with the affected swimmers and pool employees to find a solution.

Town hall boss Ortlieb said with a view to the tense budget situation: “Every facility must provide a reasonable price.”
