Annika Jung from the city and transport planning office “Planersocietät” presented the results of the mobility forum and an online survey at the city council meeting.

Geretsried - At the end of last year, around 700 citizens provided numerous information about walking, cycling and car traffic as well as the use of buses and trains.

It became clear that the number of cars in Geretsried is constantly increasing.

Car traffic in Geretsried is increasing more and more

“The increase in the number of reported motor vehicles is usually accompanied by negative effects,” reported Jung.

These include increased traffic volumes as well as increasing air, noise and CO2 emissions.

Of those surveyed, 68 percent use the car as a means of transport, while 26 percent mainly travel around the city on foot or by bike.

Just six percent regularly use buses and trains, although the express bus in particular has proven successful since the introduction of the 49 euro monthly ticket.

There is a particular need for improvement in the creation of crossing aids for pedestrians and cyclists as well as in closing gaps in the cycle path network.

Participants complained about delays and a lack of stop infrastructure for buses and trains.

Overall, there is a lack of mobility stations and sharing offers in Geretsried.

With the development of a target concept, various measures to improve the transport infrastructure will now be implemented over the next few years.

Four goals for a modern mobility concept in Geretsried

In close cooperation with the city's mobility officer Alexandra von Alvensleben and the city administration, four overall goals were defined: "Promoting mobility for all", "Strengthening active forms of mobility", "Bus and train are the backbone of the environmental network" and "Improving supra-regional transport connections".

There are also sub-goals, such as “strengthening cycling in all its facets”.

Bicycle repair columns could also contribute to this.

“A long-term strategy requires that progress be measured at regular intervals: undesirable developments can then be identified and remedied at an early stage,” emphasized Jung.

The city council supported the “Future-oriented Geretsried mobility concept”.

Edmund Häner (independent) and Volker Reeh (Geretsrieder List) voted against this.
