A few hours after the collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, hit by a cargo ship during the night from Monday to Tuesday, US President Joe Biden committed to rapid repairs, and the check that goes with it.
Faced with “this emergency situation”, he assured that he “intends that the federal government will pay the entire cost of reconstruction” of the building and promised to “return the port to service as soon as possible”.
In the disaster, six people are missing, presumed dead.
The collapse also blocked key infrastructure in this Maryland city: maritime traffic is completely interrupted until further notice in both directions, while debris from the bridge is cleaned.
However, the “port of Baltimore is one of the largest maritime hubs in the country,” recalled Joe Biden.
