Allgäu Airport is a transshipment point for many travelers from the region and neighboring countries.
If you have a deposit with you before your trip, there are two collection containers in the entrance area.
The deposit collected will benefit humedica eV.
Memmingen/Unterallgäu – Humedica, the international aid organization based in Kaufbeuren, and Allgäu Airport have been working together for a long time.
Humedica relief flights often depart from Memmingerberg and the airport team also provides active support with organization and logistics.
The joint deposit collection project has existed since 2016, in cooperation with the local V-Markt.
The project
Volunteer supervisor Roswitha Bahner-Gutsche looks after the project and the group.
The two collection containers are emptied regularly, usually daily.
The next step is to sort things out, because it's not always just deposits that end up in the containers.
If deposit-free bottles are thrown in, the volunteers recycle them.
Other “stray items” are disposed of properly.
The volunteers bring the deposit bottles to the V-Markt in order to return them to the cycle.
In the last two years, 34,560.80 euros were raised in this way.
The donation was ceremoniously handed over on March 21st.
The volunteers and representatives of the V-Markt and Allgäu Airport were very happy.
Based on a deposit value of 25 cents per bottle, around 138,243 bottles were collected.
Looking at the two years, around 190 deposit bottles are handed out per day.
humedica is also implementing the project at Friedrichshafen Airport.
But this is only possible as long as enough volunteers help.
The airport is an important part of the regional infrastructure.
With increasing awareness of sustainability and social responsibility, new measures are constantly being implemented.
Karin Ettmüller, sustainability officer at Allgäu Airport, is pleased with the success of the project.
For them, sustainability and social work go hand in hand – as the long-standing collaboration shows.
Andreas Loritz, Head of Non-Aviation, is also impressed by the response from travelers: “Many use the containers correctly and are doing something good.”
Sustainability and social responsibility
Despite appropriate information on the collection containers, many people are not aware of the impact that deposit donations have.
Since humedica is financed entirely by donations, the travelers make an important contribution to international aid.
Humedica's areas of operation include the Gaza Strip, Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Ethiopia.
Around 580 medical emergency workers and coordinators work on a voluntary basis in disaster areas.
