All her hard work went down the drain - one woman learned the hard way about the dangers of blindly trusting tricks found on the internet after the cleaning method she tried led to a flooded kitchen.

It all started when Kandi took on the nasty task of cleaning her sink drain, inspired by a video she saw on TikTok of a home maintenance expert. The girl who calls herself Candy Kitty and has almost a hundred thousand followers on Tiktok decided to take apart the drain opening of her sink herself to scrub it and clean the mold from it. In a clip she uploaded online, and has gained more than 8 million views, she says: "Okay, something really bad was just caught on camera," before continuing, "I can't believe it. I'm dripping water. I'm still in shock."

The video shows Kitty following the instructions for the method and starting to disassemble the sink drain with its strainer, explaining "I saw this method on TikTok. Listen to me now, don't copy methods from TikTok."

After she loosens all the parts she says: "Wait a minute, it really works," revealing a huge accumulation of dirt. "Look how disgusting it is," she exclaimed.

While trying to clean the dirty sink, she sprinkled a popular cleaning powder on the sink and parts, letting it all sit and lather, before things started to go wrong.

And then everything went wrong

"I took this photo when I was excited to show everyone the before and after of this cleansing method," she told Newsflare. "I opened the hatch of my kitchen sink to clean the hard-to-reach places."

But when she decided that "now it's time to scrub" and used her bristle brush to remove all the dirt while muttering "Oh, it comes off pretty easily" - she still didn't know what was going to happen. Kitty suddenly noticed that the sink was starting to move, but didn't pay attention to it, and even joked that "any plumber who watches this now will probably have a heart attack."

Although everything seemed fine, she suddenly "heard something" and began to "feel something", before realizing that she had just flooded her entire kitchen. It turns out that she unknowingly disconnected the pipe from the sink by loosening the nut that holds it all together, and in her innocence wiped the cleaning solution left in her sink. Then, she made a big mistake: she turned on the water to wash.

"I turned on the faucet and scrubbed the dirt I cleaned off my sink," she explained, "After a few seconds I felt my feet get wet and to my surprise, after looking down I saw a waterfall of water flowing from my kitchen cabinet. Yes, I flooded my kitchen!"

In response, a viewer who claimed to be a plumber recommended that if cleaners wanted to scrape the dirt that accumulates in the sink, they could remove the screw that connects the drain opening to the sink but warned them not to run water. "9 out of 10 times when I go to fix a clogged sink, I'll remove the drain crack like she did, but instead of running water I put on gloves and use my fingers to remove the dirt, then put the drain back on and only then run water again," he wrote.

When asked why this hidden area should be cleaned at all, he replied: "Because if the dirt that accumulates there is too thick, it will clog the drain. Then you call a plumber and he will charge you hundreds of shekels to clean it."

Plumbers and other plumbing experts have previously issued warnings against the method - to prevent people from trying it themselves and fearing that they might break the drain opening and cause a leak in the piping below.

The experts recommend pouring cleaning liquid directly into the sink without removing the drain cover, and say that you should use unclogging products or even push in a tool that can be used as a plunger (for example, a cuff or a spiral spring to release blockages) in case of particularly deep blockages.
