Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday: Regular opening hours in Bavaria

Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday are not legally holidays.

Supermarkets are allowed to open regularly on Thursday (March 28th) and Saturday (March 30th).

However, the crowds are likely to be large - after all, everyone still wants to do their Easter shopping.

It would be advisable to start your errands very early on both days.

The supermarkets remain closed on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday

The situation is different on Good Friday (March 29th), Easter Sunday (March 31st) and Easter Monday (April 1st).

Rewe, Lidl, Aldi & Co. remain closed on these public holidays.

If you want to shop in the supermarket, you have to wait until Tuesday (April 2nd).

However, there are also exceptions to this rule: gas stations are allowed to remain open, and shops in train stations and airports are also exempt.

The following applies to bakeries: According to Bavarian law, they are allowed to open for a maximum of three hours on the public holidays of Good Friday (March 29th) and Easter Sunday (March 31st).

Bakeries remain closed on Easter Monday.
