The Erding fire department has had a challenging year.

The active ones had to move out 473 times alone.

The commander gets annoyed about trivial cases.

Erding - Many of the district's fire departments are currently reporting record numbers for 2023. But none come close to the 473 deployments by Erdinger's active personnel.

Commander and city fire inspector Thomas Hagl spoke of a challenging twelve months at the annual general meeting.

In the missions alone, he counted over 8,000 hours that the active members put themselves into the service of the citizens.

In addition, there were well over 2,000 hours of exercises and countless hours of training and further education.

Climate change is also clearly reflected in the fire department's area of responsibility, said Hagl.

During the snow chaos at the beginning of December alone, people had to be deployed over 30 times: “In general, weather-related deployments are increasing,” he said.

Over the year, the Erding fire department helped 84 people in acute emergencies, including 26 rescues by breaking down doors, and the turntable ladder was used another 14 times.

However, Hagl criticized that people often had to respond to minor cases: “Unfortunately, self-help and personal initiative are significantly reduced.” Instead of dialing 112, for example if there is a branch on the street, it would be possible to quickly remove it yourself.

There was also another extreme: for eight people, any help came too late during operations.

This is a great burden for those active: “Because they are people like everyone else.” Fortunately, there is the district’s Psychosocial Emergency Care for Emergency Services (PSNV-E) team, which offers very good after-deployment care.

The city fire inspector also spoke about the two planned new construction of the equipment sheds for Erding and Altenerding: “The planning is in full swing, and I contradict voices that see this as oversizing.

When you look at our deployment numbers, they should fall silent.

Altenerding and we are the most efficient fire departments in the district.”

Mayor Max Gotz was full of praise for the tireless efforts.

The city fire departments have to keep pace with developments, which is why the two new fire stations are absolutely necessary.

Gotz also spoke about the air base: “The date of exemption has now been confirmed as December 31, 2024, and this will add a large area for the fire departments.” The city will continue to equip it in the best possible way: “The most important thing is “That you return healthy from the missions.”

District fire officer Florian Pleiner counted - together with Altenerding and Langengeisling - up to three missions a day: "You manage all of this in your free time, that's admirable." Pleiner showed no understanding for the fact that some are currently questioning the ten-minute time limit for help, because: “After this time, the chances of success decrease enormously.” This is not yet a problem in Erding.

The fire department also sets an example when it comes to young talent.

At the end of 2023, 19 young people were there, but the 20 mark has now been exceeded again.

The financial situation is also improving, as outgoing treasurer Manuel Metka reported.

The cash balance increased by a good 4,100 euros to almost 56,500 euros at the end.

Social activities played a major role, as club chairman Michael Galler had previously emphasized.

Among other things, the Spring Festival was once again a great success.

In general, he spoke of an exciting year 2023: “As the newly elected board, we had a lot to learn and achieve.” But club life is now going well again.

Because Treasurer Metka resigned from his position due to professional reasons, a successor had to be elected.

After slight difficulties in counting the votes, it was clear: Oliver Rackl received the unanimous trust of the 71 people present.
