The Eching local council decided in 2018 that the music school's fees would be increased every two years. But this year the increases would have been more serious.

Now a compromise has been found.

Eching

– The current fee regulations and the school/usage regulations of the music school in the municipality of Eching had to be adjusted.

And because nothing gets cheaper in times like these, an increase in music school fees was out of the question in the local council.

The only question was how high the adjustment should be.

In principle, at the local council meeting on April 24, 2018, it was decided to increase the music school's fees every two years based on the general consumer price index.

Since it has been very high in the past two years, there would be an increase in music school fees by a whopping 13.2 percent in the 2024/2025 school year.

Since private households are already “under financial pressure” due to high inflation, there is a risk of many cancellations and the wage increases for employed teachers will only average just under eleven percent in 2024/2025, the music school management had to increase the fees proposed by a maximum of ten percent.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Music school makes suggestions for discounts

The music school management also suggested reducing the rental fees for rental instruments from 16 to 15 euros, as the rental fees are relatively high compared to other music schools.

In addition, severely disabled people with a proven level of disability of at least 50 percent should be exempt from the foreign and adult allowance.

Furthermore, employees of the municipality of Eching and their children are to be exempted from the external allowance.

However, the latter is still being reviewed at the suggestion of Siglinde Lebich (Greens), as it could be a monetary advantage.

Criticism from Georg Bartl: “Rowing back from our fundamental decision”

In principle, the local council agreed with the ten percent solution, which Mayor Sebastian Thaler described as “justifiable”.

Criticism came from Georg Bartl (CSU): As soon as the situation became a little tense, “we rowed back from our fundamental decision”.

If you reacted to the respective circumstances each time, you could have saved yourself the 2018 decision.

The CSU also voted for the ten percent solution, but the current approach should be compensated for in the event that the next increase is not as high.

Thaler considered it “not opportune” and Herbert Hahner (SPD) considered it premature to commit to this now and commit to such an approach.

The music school management's proposal was accepted without any dissenting votes.
