Originally, the idea was to relieve the distress of Gazans, who were suffering from famine, especially in the north of the Palestinian territory.
And then there were the tragedies, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues to rage.
According to the Hamas government, 18 people died on Monday - twelve by drowning and six by stampede - while trying to recover humanitarian aid parachuted onto a beach near the city of Gaza, in the north of the Palestinian territory.
At the beginning of March, five people had already lost their lives in a similar operation.
So many tragedies which led the Islamist movement in power in the Gaza Strip to demand, on Tuesday, an end to such airdrops.
The airdrops of these “parcels” – which mainly contain food and hygiene products – are carried out in particular by countries such as Jordan, France and the United States.
A “drop in the ocean,” a lieutenant in the American Air Force who participated in these operations admitted to AFP.
But are they dispensable, when land access is very limited - Hamas is calling for their multiplication, instead of air drops - and the population of the Gaza Strip is in agony?
According to the UN, if nothing is done, widespread famine could threaten this territory of 2.4 million inhabitants.
