A man kept highly poisonous snakes in an Allgäu apartment.

The terrariums were neither properly secured nor did the owner take good care of his animals.

Allgäu - Actually it should just be a routine check.

But for animal rights activists at the Munich Reptile Sanctuary, the operation unexpectedly became dangerous.

A man illegally kept poisonous snakes in his apartment in the Allgäu, neglected them - and used questionable methods to deceive animal rights activists.

The terrariums of the poisonous snakes were incorrectly labeled - a danger for the unsuspecting animal rights activists

The owner's terrariums were labeled misleadingly, reports the Munich Reptile Sanctuary.

Highly poisonous snakes inhabited the supposedly harmless terrariums, and security precautions were virtually non-existent.

For example, the owner had pushed open panes of glass to give the impression that the terrariums were empty.

The owner didn't care that the poisonous animals were unsecured at the time.

“The owner recklessly endangered the health of my colleagues and accepted that someone would get hurt.

“All of this just to cover up his illegal behavior,” Markus Baur, head of the reception center, commented on the incident in a statement.

Head of the reception center: “Bans don’t stop people”

When exotic animal welfare cases come to the radar of the authorities, the reptile sanctuary in Munich is there to provide professional support.

The requirements for keeping poisonous snakes vary depending on the federal state.

However, Baur emphasizes the need for a uniform, implementable regulation to combat illegal animal cruelty and potential risks to third parties.

“Unfortunately, it has been shown again and again that bans do not stop people from buying animals anyway – illegally and uncontrolled.”

The confiscated animals from the Allgäu are now housed in the rescue center in Munich and are being kept there.

The owner will now have to take legal responsibility.
