Recurring problems of discipline, insolence and provocation on the part of a minority of students who do not necessarily want to work, even though that is what they are there for.

Is the Mare Carrée high school, in Moissy-Cramayel (Seine-et-Marne), so different from the others?

Impossible to say.

But in this establishment of around 1,300 students, voices are raised against the lack of sanctions against those who frequently disrupt classes.

Latest episode, at the beginning of March: a problematic student for several years, a lesson disrupted by yet another insolence towards the teacher, a summons to the principal's office in the presence of the teenager's father.

And there, the slip-up, with a father who has become threatening towards the teacher, who is asked to slip away discreetly and as quickly as possible from the school.

The latter immediately filed a complaint with the police and put herself on sick leave.

Parents deny any laxity

“This is not the first time that a teacher has been asked to leave the school discreetly,” says a teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity.

As for this student, there was never any real sanction against him.

It’s a story that lasts.

I’m surprised he’s still in high school…” He says he’s “shocked” that his colleague could have been asked to sneak home.

“This raises questions about the way in which problems are managed,” he said, while denouncing “a real suffering of teachers”.

At the union meeting on March 18, the teachers present did not really want to speak further on the subject.

“Colleagues do not feel supported,” we nevertheless say at Snes-FSU, the national secondary education union, the leading union organization for middle and high school staff.

“There is a lack of responsiveness and support from management when there are violent acts between students or towards teachers.

At the Federation of Parents' Councils (FCPE), the majority association in public education in Seine-et-Marne, we refute any suspicion of laxity towards the principal of Mare Carrée.

“He is a fair head of establishment in every sense of the word and who will do what is necessary if there are reasons to do so,” assures Flore Lawin, departmental administrator of FCPE 77. “It also depends on what is going on the student, if he is in a delicate situation, and if there is a reason to add more.

In this area, I trust him completely.

A disciplinary council this week

Complicated family situation, adolescent crisis, unhappiness... Perhaps these are the reasons why the principal would be cautious with the most severe sanctions, for example towards this student deemed problematic.

Our various calls, however, seem to have generated some reactions.

Thus, on Tuesday March 19, the representatives of the high school teachers were summoned to an audience at the rectorate of the Créteil academy (Val-de-Marne).

At the Directorate of Departmental Services of National Education (DSDEN), the former academic inspectorate of Seine-et-Marne, we deny any desire to brush this type of problem under the rug.

A sanction should be imposed shortly regarding the son of the threatening father, a student who has already been temporarily excluded in the past.

“The teacher filed a complaint and this is encouraged,” we assure the DSDEN.

This teacher received support from her head of school.

As for the student in question, he will spend this week in disciplinary council.

According to our information, the head of the establishment tried to seek solutions by means other than a disciplinary council.

But these did not lead to a favorable outcome, all that remained was the disciplinary council... and a possible new exclusion, definitive or not, of the student concerned.
