Don't prioritize motor vehicle traffic: All road users should feel safe in the future.

That is the goal of the mobility concept.

On average, 23,000 vehicles travel on Mainburger Straße every day.

The city of Freising's mobility concept is now being implemented here.

The goal: more safety for everyone on the road.

Freising

– Create a cycle path quickly, easily and safely.

This is one of the goals of the new traffic routing that is now being implemented in the Mainburger Straße area in Freising.

Clara Siebel and Dominik Fuchs presented to the city councilors what they had finally worked out for the section between Korbinianskreuzung and Rotkreuzstrasse.

In this area it is important to reconcile many interests.

“It is an essential axis for all types of traffic,” said Dominik Fuchs, also with regard to the fact that this is a route to school.

Especially at peak times, there are not only a lot of cycling students and buses on the road, but also rush hour traffic that makes its way through Freising.

Cycling facilities so far: none.

One of the objectives was to ensure the performance of the junctions for vehicle traffic, but not to prioritize it.

Public transport must not be restricted, that is what they have made it their mission.

Cycle protection lanes and cycle paths

In order to be able to implement cycle protection lanes and cycle traffic facilities (pure cycle paths) and to give cyclists enough space, car lanes will be eliminated.

A lane from north to south in the area of Alois-Steinecker-Straße to the Korbinians intersection and further along Isarstraße to the right-turn lane from Hochtrasse to Ottostraße will be eliminated and a cycle protection lane will be created instead.

There is no continuous colored marking for the time being; only the conflict areas should be marked in red.

All of this includes Section 1, which is scheduled to be completed this summer - including some necessary changes to the traffic lights.

Cost: 170,000 euros.

In section 2, protective strips will be created on Mainburger Straße between Klebelstraße and Rotkreuzstraße.

Bicycle traffic facilities (which may only be used by cyclists) will be implemented in the areas where Alois-Steinecker-Straße, Kammergasse, Lankesbergstraße and Klebelstraße merge with Mainburger Straße.

In construction phase 3, cycle protection strips will be implemented on both sides of General-von-Nagel-Straße in the area from the Korbiniansjunction to Alte Poststraße.

There is no vehicle lane towards Neustift.

Further reports are required for construction phases 2 and 3.

The whole thing also entails changes for Isarstrasse.

A lane from north to south should also be eliminated here - up to the ramp to the Hochtrasse in the direction of St 2350. In addition, a protective strip should be created in the right-turn lane towards Neustift.

Maximum safety for cyclists

“On the way to this result, we saw a lot of designs – and they have gotten better and better,” said mobility officer Karl-Heinz Freitag (FW) at the city council meeting.

The whole thing works without purchasing any land or making any changes to the structural facilities.

“It is an optimization without restricting the driver too much;

“a synthesis of maximum safety for cyclists and a good end result for drivers too,” he praised the plans.

Werner Habermeyer (Greens) also had a clear verdict: “Absolutely top!” Anton Frankl (FSM) asked that businesses be brought on board in all planning – such as the Hofbrauhaus and Landmaschinen Huber.

The concept is now a done deal, with Rudi Schwaiger (CSU) voting against.

It starts in summer.
