The members of the Forstern Horticulture and Homeland Care Association found out why the morning is the best time to harvest herbs at their annual general meeting.

The district advisor for garden culture and land conservation Michael Klinger gave the hobby gardeners in the Eicher Museum some tips and tricks.

Forstern – Last year, the members of the Forstern Horticulture and Home Care Association devoted themselves to the topic of herbs.

They explored the area around Bocköd on a herb hike together, as chairman Ludwig Hiebinger told the annual general meeting.

In addition to the hike, which primarily focused on wild herbs, Michael Klinger dedicated himself to the cultivation and use of a wide variety of herbs.

Basically, he told the gardeners that the location should generally be sunny.

“If the herbs are too shady, they contain fewer essential oils and ingredients - and the scent and taste suffer as a result.” Accordingly, the best time to harvest is in the morning, because that is when the herbs are most powerful.

Klinger also gives clear recommendations on the subject of storage.

Accordingly, herbs are best dried whole and not chopped into small pieces beforehand.

This allows more ingredients and flavors to be preserved.

Last year, Forstern garden lovers devoted themselves to significantly more topics than just herbs.

At the meeting, club boss Hiebinger was able to look back on numerous activities such as planting nut trees, the plant exchange and the orchard action day.

Hiebinger had prepared something very special for the evening: He used the meeting to present Mayor Rainer Streu with the first edition of the history of the Forstern School.

The basis for its creation was Forstern's chronicle, which was published in 2012.

Hiebinger had already played a key role in the chronicle.

It has now been decided to continue the chronicle and focus on individual buildings and their significance for Forstern.

However, the first edition has not yet been published.

Because there still needs to be an exchange with the mayor about this.

The vote on increasing the membership fee from ten to twelve euros per year from 2025 could not be avoided. “The background is that the fees paid to the regional association have increased,” explained the chairman.

This was not a problem for the members; the fee increase was unanimously approved.

For the first time, the board has also decided to honor all members who have been loyal to the club for at least 25 years.

Hiebinger expressed his thanks to 39 members.

Those honored: Rosemarie Bauer, Alfons Berleb, Fritz Dworzak, Anton Eckert, Annemarie Eicher, Barbara Eicher, Georg Els, Hans Falterer, Ursula Fischer, Rosa Ganghofer, Hans Geiselhöringer, Anton Grill, Hildegard Großschedl, Ludwig Hiebinger, Elke Hombergsmaier, Frieda Hörmann , Fanni Huber, Katharina Hundschell, Johann Jell, Gerlinde Käsmeier, Anni Krieg, Irmgard Lanzl, Rosa Lehrer, Johanna Maillinger, Amalie Matheis, Hendrika Mier, Gabriele Müller, Erwin Neumaier, Heinrich Pritschet, Franz Pronold, Resi Rahnsch, Elisabeth Rampfl, Katharina Siegl, Irmengard Sollnberger, Christa Weizenbeck, Maria Weizenbeck, Margit Wendt, Anton Wimmer and Anneliese Zapfl.
