This Wednesday, the judges of Chamber II of the Buenos Aires Court of Cassation sentenced Nicolás Pachelo
to life imprisonment
for the murder of
María Marta García Belsunce
.
The crime occurred 21 years ago.
on October 27, 2002, at the house of the country victim Carmel de Pilar.
The case of María Marta shocked the country, and for years it remained without answers from justice.
The media stir that was created around this murder was such that
two productions were made for the small screen
based on this mystery.
The HBO/Max series
The most recent one came out in 2022 on HBO and HBO Max, and is titled
María Marta: the country crime
.
Inspired by the high-profile case, the series tells the story of the crime.
And it does so with rigor and extreme respect for the case, for the protagonists and for the protagonist's story.
But despite being a story extremely well known to Argentines, the plot captivates.
The series "María Marta: The country crime" premiered on Sunday, July 17, 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.

It is structured in eight 40-minute episodes.
At the time of the production's launch, it was not known who the perpetrator of the crime was and, despite that, the series is not suggestive when it comes to presenting the suspects and witnesses.
Pachelo is played by Nicolás Francella
, and out of respect for the case, he is one of the few characters who has had his identity changed in fiction (they called him Matías Centeno).
The series has
a great investigative work
behind it , which opens even more the panorama of the achimediatic case to the viewer.
It is precise in the setting of each era, the performances are impeccable and it manages to successfully attract the audience even though it tells a story that everyone knows.
It is very good and recommended to thoroughly review the cause, after knowing the outcome.
The Netflix proposal
In 2020, Netflix released a documentary about this case called
Carmel: who killed María Marta?
, after 18 years of the shocking homicide.
Carmel: who killed María Marta?
Netflix
Directed by Alejando Hartmann, the documentary exhibits never-before-disseminated evidentiary material and the testimony of figures in the case, including María Marta's widower, who was also convicted and later acquitted of the crime, Carlos Carrascosa;
the prosecutor Diego Molina Pico and family members such as Irene Hurtig, John Hurtig and Horacio García Belsunce, among others.
This series has four chapters of 45 minutes each, in which research material and multiple interviews with the protagonists of the case are presented.
Pablo Duggan was interviewed for "Carmel, who killed María Marta?", the successful Netflix documentary.

The goal of this project is neither to solve the riddles of the case nor to try to sway the audience toward a resolution.
Rather, it provides
a balance between the different hypotheses and accusations
.
Hartmann said in an interview with Clarín that he researched the year for years, and that he had long wanted to develop this project.
"We dreamed of a fiction. Later, a friend of the García Belsunce family approached me and told me that he wanted to make a documentary," explained the filmmaker.
