The Catholic rural youth in Lenggries is celebrating its 75th anniversary.
To mark the anniversary, the pastor invites ten members to wash their feet.
Lenggries – The mass on Maundy Thursday in the Lenggries parish church of St. Jakob will be a very special one for the Catholic rural youth in the village.
To mark its 75th anniversary, ten of its members will take part in the foot washing this year.
Pastor Josef Rauffer recently announced this at the annual meeting of the Lenggries Catholic Rural Youth (we reported).
“Special honor”: Ten rural youth volunteers are allowed to take part in foot washing
“This is a special honor,” says board member Thomas Ertl.
After all, this is a unique event in the history of the Catholic rural youth – and also a little surprise for the members and the rest of the board.
“I was the only one who knew about it at the annual meeting,” reports Ertl.
The priest had previously introduced him to his idea of foot washing.

The ten volunteers, five girls and five boys, were found relatively quickly.
“The reactions were hesitant at first, but after the priest explained the process, some people came forward,” reports the board.
He himself will also be present at Mass on Maundy Thursday and take part in his very first foot washing.
“It will be a completely new experience for me.” The exact choice of clothing has not yet been decided.
According to Ertl, dirndls and suits will probably be worn.
“But I’ll have to find out more about that.”
Washing feet for club members has a long tradition in Lenggries
Pastor Josef Rauffer knows that it is not that unusual that clubs are asked to wash their feet at an anniversary.
“This has been a long-standing tradition in Lenggries.” Usually twelve members take part with reference to the twelve apostles, but as in the case of the Catholic rural youth, there can also be fewer.
In Christian teaching, foot washing is a special symbol, as Pastor Rauffer explains.
“The gesture shows how great God’s love for people is.” Because he is “willing to perform slave services.”
For the Catholic rural youth, who, according to Rauffer, have a very close relationship with the church and faith, this of course has a deeper meaning
