Eichenau - Flight and integration have long been among the top topics - as has dealing with asylum seekers and refugees.

A panel discussion organized by the Eichenau Asylum Helpers Circle dealt with this topic.

And it met with great interest from the public.

A good 100 interested people gathered in the Friesenhalle to follow the discussion.

Social integration and humanity

A strong opinion representative on this topic is Hebertshausen's mayor Richard Reischl.

His community in the Dachau district not only accepted more refugees than the quota would have required.

They are also comparatively energetic about getting them into work and employment relationships as quickly as possible.

“Saying that a refugee has to learn German first is the wrong approach,” emphasizes Reischl.

He also does this from the perspective of social integration and humanity.

He makes it clear that he misses the higher places: “Sometimes I have the feeling that I am the only Christian in the CSU.” Big politicians must understand that so far it has often only worked because of the asylum seeker circles.

Learn German through friends and social contacts

Salsabeel Alkhlyef has also benefited from their work.

Eight and a half years ago, she came to Germany with her parents as a teenager.

Today she is studying business administration.

“I have never experienced racism here,” says the young woman.

This is largely due to the fact that she always sought communication and contact.

She learned the German language through friends and classmates rather than through courses.

Hans Sautmann, the district's integration officer, then joins in.

Through his many years of work in the Eichenau Asylum Helpers' Circle, he has a lot of practical experience with authorities and obstacles.

“Why do you have to insist so much on taking language courses first?” A lot of things are done through personal contact at work, including social contacts.

Politics should be a role model

A number of comments from the audience confirm this. Former asylum seekers report on their experiences.

It was said again and again that you had to do something about it yourself.

At the same time, they expressed gratitude for the support they received, especially from asylum seekers.

Against this background, Willi Dräxler, Caritas's integration officer, urgently appealed to refrain from creating enemy images.

In doing so, he addressed politicians, who must set an example here.

“Everyone must verbally disarm, including all parliaments from federal to local.”

Skepticism towards payment cards

Eichenau was not meant by this.

But its mayor Peter Münster has difficulty explaining the local council's recent decision that Eichenau wants to clarify the homeless situation before the Bavarian Constitutional Court. At least the Eichenau mayor agrees with Reischl in that he sees the Free State and the federal government on board.

“Even if people don’t like to see it there.” And Münster makes it clear that they are trying to find living space and are conducting negotiations.

However, it sometimes takes a while for owners to decide that they want to specifically create space for refugees.

Everyone is skeptical about the recently introduced payment card.

There is talk of activism on the part of major politicians, as well as that of the district: “District Administrator Thomas Karmasin allowed himself to be hitched to a wagon,” says Dräxler.
