The city council unanimously approved statutes for the newly formed youth council.

The committee will be elected after the Whitsun holidays – digitally.

Germering – The city does have a youth council.

However, nothing has been heard from this committee, which was last elected five years ago, for a long time.

The main reason for the radio silence was the corona pandemic, which also paralyzed the youth council after the election.

Now the youth should be listened to more strongly again.

In order to reactivate the advisory board, a working group with eleven young people was set up last year.

Student representatives from secondary schools were there.

The working group was led by Miriam Sontheim and youth speaker Hannes Kirmair (CSU).

The future composition, tasks and election procedure were discussed in two meetings.

The most important result: All regulations agreed upon at the meetings should be recorded in a statute.

According to Miriam Sontheim, this is also recommended by experts from the “Child-Friendly Municipalities” program.

The Social and Youth Committee has already approved this approach.

Now the city council agreed and passed the statutes.

In contrast to the previous 20-member youth council, the new one will have up to 27 members.

20 will be elected – online.

It is hoped that this will result in a higher voter turnout.

The remaining seven seats may be filled by secondary schools with student representatives or with people appointed by the student representatives.

The election will only be held if at least 21 candidates register.
