The open all-day school (OGTS) in Grafrath will need more rooms sooner or later.
However, an expansion of the new building is off the table due to the high costs.
Grafrath – Now the community is pursuing a different option: expanding component C of the school building.
All children who have been registered for it can still be cared for in the OGTS.
But 87 first-graders alone are already visiting the facility - that is, in fact, all ABC shooters, as Gabriele Oellinger (FLG) explained at a meeting of the local council.
Registrations will increase in the next few years
In addition, parents will be entitled to all-day care from 2026.
Because, according to the local administration, four classes are also expected in other grades, i.e. there will be more students, registrations for the OGTS will increase in the next few years.
This is eligible
According to Mayor Markus Kennerknecht (independent), the government of Upper Bavaria sees four new group rooms and a multi-purpose room as eligible for funding.
However, the initially planned extension to the new OGTS building would have cost around seven million euros - too much.
This solution was therefore not pursued further.
Now the community is looking for a cheaper alternative - which is the aforementioned extension to the school, in a north-easterly direction.
The committee was concerned that there was not enough space for an extension.
However, Kennerknecht tried to dispel this: “A timber-framed building is already possible there.” Ultimately, the local council agreed to this option.
An architectural office is now to be commissioned to carry out the relevant planning.
