According to investigators, a 19-year-old attacked his parents and two siblings with a knife.
The consequences of the crime in the extreme south of Germany are dramatic.
Hohentengen - The door of the house is open, bloodstains can be seen on a glass pane - the community of Hohentengen on the High Rhine in the far south of Germany is in shock after an act of violence.
A 19-year-old is said to have attacked and killed his parents and brother with a knife in the house on a quiet residential street.
The man's sister suffered serious injuries but survived, as police and prosecutors jointly reported.
The crime in Baden occurred on Tuesday evening around 9 p.m. in the Lienheim district of Hohentengen.
The suspect was provisionally arrested that evening, as the spokeswoman for the Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor's office, Rahel Diers, said.
“He allowed himself to be arrested without resistance,” added the lawyer.
An investigating judge then issued an arrest warrant against the suspect on Wednesday, the public prosecutor's office reported.
The 19-year-old was taken into custody.
The young man, who has German and Italian citizenship, is accused of three counts of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter.
The background to the crime, i.e. the motives and the course of events, is still being investigated, said Diers.
No information was initially provided.
The investigators did not comment in detail about where the dramatic attack took place, citing personal rights.
They spoke of an “eastern district community in the Waldshut district”.
According to dpa information, the crime took place in Hohentengen, which is located directly on the border with Switzerland.
Around 4,000 people live in the picturesque town in the Waldshut district of Baden-Württemberg.
A day after the violence, a police officer in white overalls went into the apartment building.
The house's shutters were down on the ground floor.
Blood splatters could also be seen on the sidewalk in front of the entrance door.
According to investigators, the parents, aged 58 and 61, died at the scene after the alleged attack.
The family lived in an apartment building.
“The suspect’s 34-year-old brother died in the hospital as a result of his injuries despite resuscitation measures,” reported the police and public prosecutor’s office.

The 19-year-old's sister also suffered serious stab and impact injuries.
She was taken to a clinic in a rescue helicopter.
Her injuries were not life-threatening.
In the statement, the investigators spoke of a stabbing weapon; upon request, a police spokesman specified that the suspected murder weapon was a knife.
The Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor's office and the Waldshut-Tiengen Criminal Police Office are involved in the ongoing investigation.
In another criminal case, a 27-year-old made a terrible discovery about two months ago in Villingen-Schwenningen in the southern Black Forest.
He found his parents and his brother dead in his parents' house.
According to investigators at the time, the bodies all had stab wounds.
Further investigations confirmed the suspicion that the 32-year-old son first killed his parents and then himself.
