Yair Lapid won tonight (Thursday) in the preliminary elections for the leadership of the Yesh Atid party. This is the first time elections have been held for the leadership of Yesh Atid since Yair founded the party in 2012. In the past, elections were scheduled but no candidate was found to run against Lapid, the founder of the party. Since the party was established in 2012, primaries have not been held and Lapid has extended his term as chairman of the party three times.
The elections are being held as part of the second Yesh Atid conference, in which about 750 people are members, including activists, MKs, and the heads of the party's field headquarters. In January 2022, the party held its first conference after a decade of its founding, but no vote was held because, except for No additional candidates were submitted from the Lapid Party.

MK Elazar Stern announced that he will vote for the candidacy of MK Ram Ben Barak in the primaries for the presidency of Yesh Atid. This is the first Knesset member in the party known to support Ben Barak. According to two political sources, Stern said in recent days in conversations with representatives in the party that "in order to return to being a ruling party, we need real cooperation with the public and processes that reflect democracy as a culture and not just in the selection of a chairman.
" This is lacking in the party and is also reflected in the public's attitude toward Lish Atid," this is in relation to the decrease in the number of mandates in recent polls. MK Stern has had a tense relationship with Lapid for a long time, and he is often critical of his conduct, such as, among other things, regarding the party's entry into the emergency government at the beginning of the war "Iron Swords".
