He is currently working as a product manager in a North American company that is dedicated to designing devices to measure the energy consumption of environments. “For the job, they needed a person who knows how to communicate in Italian, therefore, it was perfect for me,” says Germán.

The story of Germán Grosso, the young man who won a scholarship to study abroad and achieved the unthinkable.

At just 12 years old, he wanted to become an engineer and work in the World Rally Championship

. The surprising thing was that two years later,

his dream came true

and he began to participate in the coverage of

one of the most important competitions in the world

.

As a result of this,

he discovered his great passion: rallying.

And he fought to achieve his goals. A few years later, he began his ideal career and

became interested in living an experience abroad

.

“I had the opportunity to visit

more than 50 countries and each province of my beloved Argentina

. An incredible experience,” says Germán Grosso in an interview with

Clarín

.

The

37-year-

old man - originally from the

Province of Córdoba

-

made the decision to emigrate to Switzerland in August 2019,

with the aim of continuing his professional career in a renowned North American company.

A life full of adventures

The protagonist of this story was born in the municipality of Villa Carlos Paz, west of the

Province of Córdoba, where he made his most precious memories

. After finishing high school, in

2004

, he began a degree in Electronic Engineering at the

Aeronautical University Institute, better known as “IUA”

.

In parallel, he began his professional career

working for the "Argentine Rally Organization"

, something he had longed for for a long time, according to him. After a while, in

2009

, - in his fourth year of college -

he won a merit scholarship at the university

and his reality changed forever.

“Having had the first average of my career,

they gave me a full scholarship

to carry out a student exchange at the

National Institute of Applied Sciences in Rennes, in France

. Therefore,

in August 2009

, I arrived in

Europe

with intense cold, which

had a great impact on my life

,” explains the Argentine.

He studied there for six months, and at the end of the exchange,

he looked forward to returning to Argentina

to see

his family, according to his words. However, upon the recommendation of his university professors,

he decided to continue his studies in Europe

.

For this reason, thanks to his effort and dedication,

he received a Franco-Argentine scholarship to pursue a master's degree in Embedded Systems

at the same institution. “In

2011

, at the

age of 24

, I finished my higher education and as a reward, I went on vacation to the island of Mallorca,

Spain

,” Germán says with joy.

In turn, the young Argentine speaks 4 different languages:

English, Spanish, French and Italian

. At that time, he set to work to get a job in his profession. And that same year, he received a job offer to play the role of

electronic engineering manager in a multinational company based in Argentina

.

“In that position, I learned a lot and had the opportunity to travel to different countries. Despite this, in

2016, I quit my job and decided to return to my hometown

, where I embarked on another path,” says the professional.

There, he was hired to play a more senior role:

he led an engineering team of more than 20 professionals

in a major automotive company of French origin. And he began a

master's degree

in Business Management at

Siglo 21 University

.

Germán dreamed big

. After a while, he decided to leave that job, and moved to an unknown country

thousands of kilometers from his home

. Thus,

in August 2019

, he left

Argentina

in search of new professional challenges.

Your life in Switzerland: a unique opportunity

“On

July 7, 2019

, I had a job interview in the city of Zurich,

Switzerland

. And really,

I fell in love with the country

,” says Germán. Thanks to his extensive professional career,

he was hired

- in Switzerland -

as a product manager

in a North American company that is dedicated to designing devices to measure the energy consumption of environments.

“For the job, they needed a person who knows how to communicate in Italian, therefore,

it was perfect for me

. I had knowledge of the language, but they offered me

free classes to improve my skills in the language, which was fantastic

,” explains the engineer.

For this reason,

he moved to Bern, the capital of Switzerland

. And in that place, he realized that

work is not the most important thing

and that

life does not revolve around him, according to his words. “Switzerland gave me the tools to realize that

work is not everything and that we have to focus more on quality of life

, since employment is just another tool,” says Germán.

There,

the minimum wage is approximately 3,800 euros

, according to his words. However, it varies depending on each person's job. Germán, as an engineer, earns enough money to

cover his expenses, save a third of his salary and travel the world,

according to his words.

During his stay in the European country, he visited several destinations. Some of them were:

Denmark, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Croatia, Portugal, Sweden, Scotland, Turkey and Spain

.

In mid-2023

, he left his job, in order to work in a company belonging to the

"Mathworks Group"

,

a world leader in software development

. There, he develops simulation, testing and control systems for large aviation companies, among other things.

Despite this,

he never forgot his roots and takes his country everywhere

: he drinks mate all the time and loves

Argentina

, according to him. “Europe has become my second home, where I learned about many different cultures, something that

changed my life completely

,” says Germán from his new home.
