Industrial action could begin from April 10th, said Verdi local transport expert Peter Büddicker. However, he did not rule out the possibility that strikes could be averted.

“In the negotiations, we tried to build a bridge between flat-rate relief days and individual relief for employers when it comes to the issue of workload days. The employers' association KAV NRW (Municipal Employers' Association of North Rhine-Westphalia eV) expressed surprise at the decision on the ballot. The employers “presented a far-reaching offer paper to resolve the collective bargaining dispute” on Monday, the association announced. However, the unions insisted on “unfulfillable demands”. According to a KAV calculation, the Verdi demands would lead to around 165 million euros in additional costs for the municipal transport companies.
