The fate of a female wild boar has divided the island of Groix (Morbihan). A pregnant sow, perhaps fleeing a hunt, swam across the Atlantic Ocean from the continent (about 9 km) to give birth far from civilization on March 16. She gave birth to three little pigs. Local residents, who had spotted the animal, were moved by this happy event. Others feared that it could proliferate or even cause damage to homes and gardens. Monday March 25 in the evening, the female was shot with her cubs by the local hunting association.

he told the regional newspaper
Ouest France.
Information denied by the mayor of the town of Groix, Dominique Yvon. The councilor assured that he had not given
“the order to kill them”
although he considered the presence of wild boars to be
“annoying”,

“on an island of 14 km²”
. Dominique Yvon added to the regional newspaper that he was, before the slaughter, still in discussions with the prefecture to make a decision regarding the fate of the family of mammals.
At least one garden had already been ransacked, according to comments made by the deputy mayor and the president of the hunting association in

. But the argument was unable to convince the animalist party which was outraged on X (formerly Twitter):
“It is a real war being waged against wild animals! These individuals should have been captured and released elsewhere..."
