The Ukrainian military continues to try to stop Russia. Nevertheless, Putin's troops are making further gains in territory, as a map shows.
KYIV - Russian forces continue to make progress in the Ukraine war, both in the Donetsk region and around Bakhmut. Fighting also continues near the town of Avdiivka, which has been fought over for months.
Updated battle maps published by the US think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) show slight Russian advances east of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk. The Russian invasion army was also able to gain slight terrain to the northwest, west and southwest of Bakhmut. According to the think tank, a Russian military blogger claimed that the separatists' 11th Airborne Brigade (VDV) had completely captured Ivanivske. However, the ISW found no further evidence of this.

Advances also along the Kupyansk-Kreminna line - Russia is increasing its attacks on Sumy Oblast

Russia then concentrated its efforts further south, near the village of Novomykhailivka. The Ukrainian official predicted to the portal that the village would become one of the "hottest areas on the war front" - a fear that has come true.
