In the corridors of the IU Natatorium, the buttery scent of popcorn and pretzel largely supplants the smell of chlorine. Welcome to the Indianapolis pool, which is hosting the cream of university swimming until Saturday for the NCAA finals. A sort of big fair born in 1937 which brought together 42 teams, 235 swimmers… and a host of parents in the stands. All ready to fire up for four days to see their son win the coveted trophy with his comrades.
This year, victory should be between Cal (University of Berkeley), defending champion, and Arizona State, led by a certain Léon Marchand. The French prodigy also hit hard from the first races contested on Wednesday evening with a new NCAA record to his credit, that of the 200 yards NL, established during the 800 yards NL relay.
