The number of unemployed people in North Rhine-Westphalia fell by a good 5,300 to around 740,000 people in March compared to February. The Federal Employment Agency announced on Thursday in Düsseldorf that the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 points to 7.5 percent. A year ago the rate was 7.2 percent. For the statistics, the Federal Agency used data material that was available up to December 13th.
Düsseldorf - March.
According to the head of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional directorate, Roland Schüßler, the usual spring recovery in the labor market was weaker this year than in the past. This is due to the more difficult economic environment. What is pleasing, however, is that all groups of people benefited this spring. According to the figures, the most significant decline in unemployment occurred among employees under the age of 25.
Across North Rhine-Westphalia, unemployment in the Ruhr area is still the highest at 10.1 percent. The lowest rate is in Münsterland at 4.9 percent. The employment agencies recorded almost 137,500 vacancies in March this year, which is 8.5 percent fewer than a year ago. The labor market in North Rhine-Westphalia is divided into two parts, says Schüßler. Companies are primarily looking for qualified workers, but the majority of unemployed applicants only have low qualifications. dpa
