Instead of the usual crime series, RTL showed football on Tuesday evening: This is also noticeable in the ratings - the other channels couldn't keep up with the international match.
Frankfurt am Main – RTL actually introduced “Deadly Service Day” a few months ago. At prime time every Tuesday, the Cologne TV station shows a new case from “Miss Merkel”, “The New One and the Bull” or another popular crime thriller. But on March 26th, the TV shows had to give way to football - and that had a major impact on the ratings.
Despite the new series: RTL secures the best ratings of the day
In the past, RTL was unable to hold its own against its public competitor ARD with its “Deadly Service Day” – this time things are different. At 8:15 p.m., ARD showed the first three episodes of the series “Kafka,” which, as the name suggests, is about the Prague-born writer Franz Kafka († June 3, 1924).

According to dwdl.de,
the first episode of the ARD series
only reached 2.04 million people in prime time (three years and older) and thus achieved a market share of 7.5 percent - low figures for what is actually a very strong public broadcaster . RTL began the countdown to the DFB test match between Germany and the Netherlands at 8:15 p.m.
Kick-off was around 8:45 p.m. - but before then, 6.80 million people (24.7 percent market share) were sitting in anticipation in front of the television. Just in time for the start of the game, the number rose to 10.26 million people and RTL secured 36.2 percent of the market share. In the second half, the station was able to outperform itself again (11.33 million viewers and 46.3 percent market share).
ARD also loses in the younger target group
ARD was also unable to score points with “Kafka” among the younger target group (14 to 49 year olds): the public broadcaster received 0.38 million viewers and a total market share of 6.5 percent. Before the DFB kick-off, 2.25 million people were already watching RTL (37.9 percent market share) - at the start of the international match the number of viewers increased to 3.28 million people (50.6 percent market share) and at half time it happened again to a minimal increase (3.29 million viewers and 57.1 percent market share).

RTL thus secured by far the best ratings of the day. After the extremely successful Tuesday, things could continue with top ratings for the Cologne TV station on Wednesday (March 27th): RTL is showing their Easter spectacle “The Passion” at prime time – live from the documenta city of Kassel. For the second edition, Ben Blümel (42) takes on the role of Jesus of Nazareth and Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht (32) embodies the role of the treacherous disciple Judas.
