The BRK Ebersberg is putting a new vehicle into service for disaster control and sees it as an important addition for the people in the district.

Ebersberg

- Three volunteers from the BRK district association Ebersberg were able to pick up a new emergency vehicle for civil defense in Upper Bavaria from the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) in Bonn. As one of 180 vehicles nationwide, it is available in the Ebersberg district for large-scale operations and disasters. After adapting the equipment and the necessary training and familiarization trips, the vehicle has now been put into active service.

Among those who came to the event were the CSU Bundestag member Andreas Lenz, the deputy district administrator Walter Brilmayer and the BRK district chairwoman Kathrin Alte.

Lenz (CSU): An important component has been added to disaster protection

According to Lenz, the new “Type B ZS” ambulance will add another important component to disaster protection for the people in the district. “We are very pleased that the previous vehicle, which no longer meets current requirements, is being replaced by a new, more efficient one,” added Brilmayer. Alte wished all emergency services a “safe journey and a safe return home from all operations”.

The new ambulance is intended for use in major incidents that have national significance. For this purpose, large nationwide associations were set up in Germany over 15 years ago, the so-called Medical Task Forces (MTF). Since the start, the Ebersberg Red Cross members have been part of the Upper Bavarian MTF with a patient transport unit.

Previous vehicle no longer state of the art

“The previously used vehicle, built in 2001, is no longer state of the art and will be discarded this year,” said district preparedness manager and disaster control officer Bernhard Nowotny from the BRK. “That’s why we were taken into account at short notice for new deliveries using federal funds.” Anno Haase, BKR district specialist for the medical service, was pleased about the new vehicle: “With it we can provide patients with emergency medical care at a high level and transport them adequately, because the equipment is almost the same as that of an ambulance.” There is also the option of having one to take the second patient lying down. Deputy district head of operations Andy Jaap added: “The chassis based on a Mercedes Sprinter is robust, it has all-wheel drive and is raised higher. This means you can drive through 60 cm high water and tackle rough terrain.

“The stickering is particularly noticeable,” explained BRK district manager Manfred Barth. The new design of the federal vehicles is uniform, the symbol “blue triangle on an orange background” – the international protective symbol for civil defense – is prominently displayed on all four sides and even on the roof. “The vehicle belongs to the Red Cross and is operated by volunteer Red Cross emergency services,” said Barth.

Some of the equipment had to be improved

Some of the equipment had to be adjusted later. These include an ECG to monitor the heart rhythm and a ventilator, which the federal government does not finance for cost reasons, even though it actually sets the standard for ambulances. Some of this equipment will be financed through donations. The crew is ensured by volunteer Red Cross officers from the BRK's Rapid Response Group Transport, who can be alerted day and night via the Erding Integrated Control Center. The purpose of use includes supporting the emergency services in events involving five or more patients, such as traffic accidents or fires. The vehicle can take advantage of its all-wheel drive and off-road capabilities in adverse road conditions or on soft forest paths in the Ebersberg Forest. But the unusual vehicle will also be seen at some medical guard services at events - especially when a certain level of off-road mobility is required, such as at motocross events, riding tournaments and triathlons.
