Perennial thanks to their rhizomes, erections are vigorous, hardy and very easy to grow. Planted in drained soil, and with some very simple care, they will prosper and flower for many years.

Where to plant erections?

Fleabanes flourish and flower profusely when

in the sun.

But partial shade when it is very hot is, nevertheless, accepted. The very floriferous

Erigeron kravinskianus

particularly thrive on stony and dry soils, which makes them excellent rock garden plants, which can also be installed on low walls or between the slabs of a path.

On the

other hand,

Erigeron

speciosus,

Erigeron

'Dunkelste Aller' or other larger hybrids, appreciate

more freshness

at the roots. Their colorful flower heads will bring a natural and romantic touch to flower beds, flowerbeds or vegetable garden borders. Tip: plant tall varieties sheltered from the wind.

Fleabanes are hardy, disease-resistant plants that do very well on their own to flower generously. However, you can take a few steps to optimize this floribundity over time.

  • Mulching and watering

    : for species and hybrids that appreciate cool soils, install a layer of fine mulch (flax flake type) to keep the soil moist. Water in times of drought;

  • Staking

    : this concerns tall varieties whose stems can lie down in summer because of the wind;

  • Pruning

    : removing spent flowers encourages the production of new flower buds. And during the fall, when the last flowers have disappeared, cut the erections to the ground; the foot will leave more compact and more vigorous. Pruning can also be done after winter, especially if you want to take advantage of spontaneous sowing. But you should know that

    Erigeron kravinskianus

    can become invasive in dry soil.

  • Regenerate the stump

    : dividing the erigeron plants allows you to rejuvenate the stump. It is recommended to carry it out every three or four years, during the month of May.

How to multiply erections?

The erections multiply by sowing (spontaneous sowing possible) and by stump division in May.
