From sweaty hot to bitterly cold – the lowest and highest temperatures in Germany were recorded in Bavaria.
Munich - The fact that the lowest temperature ever measured in Germany comes from Bavaria will hardly surprise anyone - the Free State is home to the Alps, which are known to be rather cold. But the highest temperature in Germany was also recorded in Bavaria. The Free State – a federal state of (weather) extremes.
Cold, colder, Funtensee – the lowest temperature was recorded here
To get to the lowest temperature ever recorded in Germany, you have to go back a few years. On December 24, 2001, the previous cold record was set at the Meteomedia station at Funtensee in Berchtesgadener Land: -45.9 degrees. The DWD station at Funtensee registered -45.8 degrees on the same day.

For third place in the coldest temperatures ever recorded in Germany, you can stay in Bavaria, but you have to travel far back in time. 95 years to be exact. The measuring station at Hüll near Pfaffenhofen, Upper Bavaria, recorded -37.8 degrees on February 12, 1929.

Sweaty heat in the summer of 2015 – a record here in Bavaria too
From one extreme to the next: The highest temperature ever recorded in Germany was also recorded in the Free State - and it was a summery double whammy. On July 5th and August 7th 2015, 40.3 degrees were measured in Kitzingen. This is followed by Gärmersdorf near Amberg (July 27, 1983), Karlsruhe (August 9, 2003 and August 13) and Freiburg (August 13) with 40.2 degrees.
