A rally was organized this Thursday evening on the Place de la République in Paris, in support of Amos, this young man who was the victim of an attack.

“A terrible attack.” This Thursday evening, around 200 people gathered in Paris in support of Amos, this man victim of a homophobic attack on March 15 in a bar in the 10th arrondissement, and to denounce the "silence of the government", noted a journalist from the AFP. “Hate against LGBT+ people has no place in our Republic,” insists the Interministerial Delegation for the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and anti-LGBT hatred (Dilcrah).

Amos was present at the gathering organized at Place de la République at the call of the SOS homophobia association, in which some elected officials also participated. “No one should be worried about their sexual orientation. I hope that his attackers will be brought to justice,” commented Alexandra Cordebard, mayor (PS) of the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

On March 15, the young man in his twenties was discussing his relationship with his companion in a bar when a man “threw a drink in his face, then a bottle while uttering homophobic insults, he pursued him in the street, was joined by other attackers who knocked him to the ground and undressed him,” the president of SOS homophobia, Joël Deumier, told the megaphone.

An open investigation

An investigation was opened in particular for "violence in meetings due to sexual orientation with a weapon leading to incapacity for work of less than eight days", according to the Paris prosecutor's office.

“This intolerable attack took place amid almost widespread indifference,” denounced Joël Deumier. The Minister responsible for Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination, Aurore Bergé, “reacted much too late” on the social network X, he regretted.

“The absence of political reaction adds indifference to the violence, it is a guilty silence”, added the head of SOS homophobia who demands that the government “react systematically against homophobic and transphobic attacks”.

“Ten years after marriage for all, we feel less and less secure,” lamented James Leperlier, president of Inter-LGBT.
