Highlights: Gusts of up to 110 km/h were recorded in the Aosta Valley, Italy. No injuries were reported from the strong winds. The area was closed to the public for security reasons, the local government said in a statement. It was the second day in a row that the area had been hit by strong wind gusts. The weather service said the wind was caused by a “sudden and unexpected change in the weather conditions.” It was not known if any injuries had been caused by the wind.

Images captured Thursday afternoon in the Aosta Valley show the seats shaken by powerful winds, which however caused no injuries.

An unexpected gust of wind. In Breuil-Cervinia, in the Italian Alps, skiers quietly seated in the Cretaz chairlift were surprised Thursday afternoon by gusts of wind which increased from

“20-30 km/h to 110 km/h”

in a few moments, according to the website dedicated to the Aosta Valley weather.

On a video relayed by the meteorological site, we can see several chairlifts swinging in the void to impressive proportions, flying from right to left under the power of the blizzard.

“A rapid closure”

of the ski site was validated

“for security reasons”

, while the last passengers were preparing to descend.

Thursday evening, the ski resort made it clear that the event had been planned by the authorities the day before.

“The chairlift had already been closed to the public due to the sudden worsening of conditions and the last passengers were reaching the mountain station,”

she explains.

All people arrived at their destination without problem.”

But with a nice scare.
