The Nibelungen Museum, which opened in 2001, was considered a “walk-in audio book” because visitors received a multimedia guide at reception to walk through history. Now operations must stop - for now.
Worms - The Nibelungenlied about the dragon slayer Siegfried and his murderer Hagen is one of the Germans' favorite legends. Many scenes in the heroic epic take place in and around Worms, as is clearly shown in the local Nibelungen Museum. However, this Sunday (March 31st), the exhibition center in the city on the Rhine has to temporarily close - “for structural and technical reasons,” as they say. In particular, it concerns complex deficiencies in fire protection.
Due to the tight budget situation, the city currently has no funds available for the necessary measures. “The political committees must decide what happens next with the rooms on the city wall.” The city council is scheduled to address the issue at its meeting at the end of April.
For Worms, one of the oldest cities in Germany, the Nibelungen are also a factor in tourism - and can generally be experienced even without a museum: the organizers of the Nibelungen Festival in Worms have announced the play “The Diplomat” for this year (12th to 28th . July). The question will also be addressed as to how to prevent a war that no one actually wants - but which still seems unavoidable, it was said. dpa
