In Iffeldorf, elementary school students can now borrow books despite the library being closed. This is made possible by a cooperation with the Penzberg city library.

Iffeldorf - Promoting reading skills in primary school students is crucial. Current studies show that it forms the basis for school careers, personal development and participation in society, the city of Penzberg announced in a press release. In short: reading is important. However, since the Iffeldorf community library was closed at the end of last year after 30 years, the community has now entered into an intermunicipal cooperation with the city of Penzberg, the statement continues.

The cooperation with the Penzberg city library enables Iffeldorf's primary school students to continue to borrow books

The goal: To build a range of books suitable for children and young people for a school library in Iffeldorf. In collaboration with the Penzberg city library, a concept was developed to maintain the library offerings for local school children. For this purpose, the municipality of Iffeldorf is making the premises of the former library in the Landgasthof Iffeldorf available. The city of Penzberg says the aim is for “intensive cooperation”. An expansion of the existing concept is also conceivable.

A volunteer opens and supervises the library once a month for elementary school students. The community spent around 1,000 euros on a basic inventory of new books. The Penzberg city library cleaned up the existing inventory and selected the new books. According to the announcement, the books will be replaced approximately every six weeks (before the holidays). This is intended to create a varied offering, it goes on to say. The classes at the Iffeldorf elementary school would visit the library with their teachers about once a month. Each child is allowed to borrow two books per visit.
