The Città di Castello international literary prize will be the only competition in Italy to have a permanent section reserved for all inmates of Italian penitentiaries: "Destination Elsewhere. Writing as an exploration of timeless worlds" is the title of the special section, which will be launched in 18th edition which is taking shape in these days.

The project - explains the Municipality of Tifernate - has the objective of encouraging prisoners, through writing, to give voice to their feelings, their reflections on "before, during and after" the period of imprisonment and by involving civil society with awareness events on prison world.

For the head of the penitentiary administration department, Giovanni Russo, "this is a further significant step forward for the penitentiary administration which aims to modify the execution of sentences in the penitentiary institutions of our country". Russolo defined it as "an ambitious project of extraordinary social importance".

"The Città di Castello Prize is the only competition in Italy to therefore have a permanent special section reserved for all inmates of Italian penitentiaries. With this project of extraordinary social value but not only - underlined the promoter of the literary event Antonio Vella - we intend to contribute to the cultural growth of imprisoned people and their more complete recovery. If the period of detention in prisons, according to the legislative system, must above all be preparatory to the reintegration of prisoners into society, the project we have conceived goes precisely in this direction".

The mayor of Città di Castello, Luca Secondi, also underlined the importance and prestige of the memorandum of understanding signed in Rome. "The literary prize bears the name of our city and is now enriched with a special section reserved for all Italian penitentiary institutions of great human and value significance: undoubtedly a source of pride and pride for the Tiferno community, for its centuries-old history and tradition in the typography sector ".
