Highlights: The B 307 between Aurach and Bayrischzell will be closed from April 8th. The route is open at times and there are special regulations for residents. There are exceptions for people such as commuters, tradesmen and overnight guests. The diversion around Wendelstein takes around 45 minutes. The federal government simply pays more - which is why more federal roads are being renovated than state roads. The first construction phase concerns the seven kilometers between aurach and the entrance to Bayrishzell.

The renovation of the B 307 between Neuhaus and Bayrischzell begins after the Easter holidays. Here are the most important details.

Neuhaus/Bayrischzell – Since the extensive closure of the B 307 between Aurach and Bayrischzell became known, Mayor Georg Kittenrainer (CSU) has not been on the phone. There was initially talk of a complete closure without any ifs and buts. Now things aren't quite as bad. The route is open at times and there are special regulations for residents. The closure is due to apply from Monday, April 8th. The construction site will be set up beforehand, in the second week of the holidays, which could mean single-lane closures.

60 instead of seven kilometers: During the complete closure of the B 307 between Aurach and Bayrischzell from April 8th, road users have to accept a long detour. There are exceptions for people such as commuters, tradesmen and overnight guests. You can use branch routes at times. The first question that comes to mind for many people - including Kittenrainers - is whether the condition of the federal highway - especially in comparison to other routes - is really so bad that renovation needs to be done now. The responsible building authority in Rosenheim says yes. As part of the so-called coordinated maintenance and construction program, a special vehicle with extensive measurement technology checks the condition of the road every three years. According to department head Matthias Kreuz, damage occurred on two longer sections between Aurach and Bayrischzell. Of course, it makes sense to renovate the other sections at the same time before we have to do it again in a few years. “We don’t do this as we see fit.”

The federal government simply pays more - which is why more federal roads are being renovated than state roads

Kreuz also has an explanation for the question about the significantly worse condition of other roads - such as the state road through Fischbachau: "For federal roads, the cost bearer is the federal government, and it provides more money than, for example, the Free State of Bavaria for state roads."

The diversion around Wendelstein takes around 45 minutes

The first construction phase concerns the seven kilometers between Aurach and the entrance to Bayrischzell. Seven weeks are scheduled. As reported, the following applies to local traffic - i.e. day trippers -: Getting through is only possible on weekends and on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. However, the diversion around the Wendelstein (Sudelfeld, Oberaudorf, Bad Feilnbach) is unacceptable for commuters or craft businesses, for example - around 45 minutes of additional time. Kittenrainer now has a solution that is probably unique in the Miesbach district. There are time windows for commuters, residents, tradesmen, suppliers and overnight guests in which they can travel in or out of Bayrischzell via branch routes. At the top of the hour it should be open for about a quarter of an hour in the direction of Bayrischzell, and at half hour the same amount of time in the other direction.

Two-way one-way regulation on side streets - but only for locals

Since the sections being worked on are up to four kilometers long, it takes a quarter of an hour to clear the path before oncoming traffic arrives. Kittenrainer has seen this two-way, one-way system at Alpine passes. It has been agreed with the building authority, which is also responsible for the signage or awards the contract for it. As soon as the traffic regulations are issued by the district office, the municipality will publish details on its homepage, said Kittenrainer.

However, traffic will not be able to flow completely unhindered, even during the regular opening hours of the federal highway. Because where the construction machinery is located, there is a one-sided blockade and traffic lights. As reported, carrying out the entire measure under one-sided closure failed due to the lane width being too narrow in conjunction with the occupational health and safety guidelines.

Between Spitzingstrasse and Aurach it will be completely closed from June 3rd

The second section of the renovation affects the almost two and a half kilometers between Spitzingstrasse and Aurach. The plan is to carry out renovation work with a full closure from Monday, June 3rd to Friday, June 14th. Those from Neuhaus who have to take the detour via Schliersee, Agatharied, Wörnsmühl and Fischbachau may not be particularly amused.

It is also this second section that is causing headaches for regional transport in Upper Bavaria with its buses. When asked, there are still no details as to how the company will structure its schedule during the lockdown. The RVO is not affected by the first section, as no public bus has been running to Bayrischzell for a long time.

Losses for Wendelsteinbahn are hardly foreseeable

The Wendelsteinring line and the Wendelsteinbahn are at least getting off relatively lightly during the major closure. The former doesn't start until May 15th, three days later - according to the plan - the renovation should be completed. The mountain railway is being overhauled from April 8th to 26th, remains easily accessible by train, and is open on weekends. “If we have a permanent period of good weather during the closure period, it will of course be bitter,” they say when asked. Bus groups would be redirected to the cog railway to Brannenburg.
