Summary.

On March 8, on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day, several deputies from different political parties presented a bill before an assembly of single-parent mothers, gathered at the Palais-Bourbon. The objective: to create a “single parent status” and ensure their rights. A “single-parent family” card, which would give the right to reductions for transport or leisure, is also being studied.

Today in France, 25% of families are single parents. In the overwhelming majority of cases, we find women at their head. These single mothers are hit harder by insecurity than men. 40% of them live below the poverty line. Long invisible, single mothers have managed in recent years to make their demands heard, particularly during the Yellow Vest crisis at the end of 2018, hit hard by the decline in purchasing power.

Code source takes stock of this subject, today, with two journalists from Le Parisien: Christine Mateus, in charge of women and their struggles, and Bérangère Lepetit, who particularly follows the family and early childhood, within the society department .
