Finally spring – the next road trip can begin! We have selected the most beautiful travel routes in Germany for you to suit the season.
Spring time is road trip time! Nature slowly awakens from hibernation and everything begins to green and bloom. The rising temperatures make you want to travel - because what could be nicer than discovering new places? In Germany there are numerous scenic routes and charming destinations that can be explored by car or motorbike. Here are some of the most beautiful road trips that lead through spectacular landscapes.
1. German Alpine Road
Do you love adventurous routes and can't get enough of curves? Then you shouldn't miss the over 450 kilometer long route between Lindau and Schönau. On the way you will enjoy breathtaking views of the Allgäu, the Bavarian Alps and the Zugspitzland. Idyllic alpine meadows and blooming hilly landscapes make the road trip a special experience, especially in spring.

Be sure to take time to stop. Then you can visit destinations such as the Ettal Monastery and the royal castles near Füssen. If you're lucky with the weather, you can also swim in one of the 20 mountain lakes along the route. The most famous are probably the Chiemsee and the Tegernsee. You can find more information about the German Alpine Road here.
2. German Volcano Road
Excuse me – volcanoes in Germany? This route shows how diverse the German landscape is. There are no active volcanoes or lava flows anymore, but craters, geysers and cinder cones can be admired along the way. Traces of previous eruptions can still be seen in the Eifel. The German Volcano Road stretches for 280 kilometers. Let's start at Lacher See. This water-filled crater was formed after a massive eruption over 13,000 years ago. The Ulmener Maar is also worth seeing. At 10,900 years old, it is the youngest volcano in Germany. There is more information on the official Vulkanstrasse website.

3. Nordic UNESCO Route
Selected travel routes also carry the UNESCO title. There are a total of eight UNESCO World Heritage routes in Germany. The 557 kilometer long route along the North and Baltic Seas is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful. The starting point is the Wadden Sea in Lower Saxony, one of the most extraordinary natural locations in Germany. From there we continue to the Hanseatic cities of Bremen, Lübeck, Wismar and Stralsund. It's worth a stop to explore the Western Pomerania Lagoon Landscape National Park.

The route ends in Sassnitz on Rügen. Nature lovers should not miss the Jassmund National Park. Spring is considered the most beautiful time on Rügen: rapeseed fields are blooming in their magnificent yellow colors, the beaches are still empty, and many outdoor activities are possible again. Five nights are recommended for the Nordic UNESCO Route, but of course you can take longer.
4. Rhine Romantic Route
It is not without reason that the Rhine Valley has inspired countless artists from home and abroad throughout history. They included the British painter William Turner and the French writer Victor Hugo. No wonder: the wildly romantic landscape is characterized by countless castles and palaces, which practically give free rein to the imagination. Starting from Cologne, the 360 kilometer long route always runs along the Rhine to Mainz.

One of the most famous attractions is the Loreley Rock. Here you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Rhine Valley, which shines in particularly clear colors in spring. Tip: Change the side of the river on the return journey so that you can see even more sights.

5. Saxon-Bohemian Silver Route
Gold rush is a thing of the past: On the 275 kilometer long route from Zwickau to Dresden you can follow in the footsteps of another valuable precious metal. Silver was first mined in the Erzgebirge in the 12th century. The mining tradition lasted for eight centuries. History lives on in the 30 visitor mines. There are also museums, sites of lively customs and historic mountain towns to explore. The wealth of past times associated with silver is reflected in the magnificent hall churches. A branch of the Silver Road leads to the Bohemian part of the Ore Mountains. Here you can visit the mountain town of Boží Dar and the small town of Ostrov. You can find more information about the Silver Road here.
