2024-03-30T17:06:02.896Z

Highlights: Bertrand Delanoë says he declined Emmanuel Macron's offer to become a minister seven years ago. “Social policy was in deficit from the first mandate. And there I think that a certain number of defects have worsened,” he argued. The former mayor of Paris (2001-2014), now aged 73, judged the debut of the prime minister, appointed in January, “courageous” “I deeply regret the waste he makes of himself because he is someone who has talent, who has culture, he knows well when he betrays our common ideals”

The former mayor of Paris and support of Emmanuel Macron in 2017 also revealed that he had declined Emmanuel Macron's offer to become a minister.

The former socialist mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoë, support of Emmanuel Macron in 2017, estimated that the

“social policy”

carried out had been

“deficit from the first mandate”

, even judging that

“a certain number of defects have worsened »

since the beginning of the second.

Asked by Emmanuel Macron to become a minister seven years ago, Bertrand Delanoë said he declined, in a program broadcast on Sunday on

Radio

J.

“I remember saying to him (...): “

Emmanuel, it’s true that we agree on Europe and on a certain number of subjects. But I will not be a member of a government that reforms the Labor Code by ordinance

,

as was done in the summer of 2017, underlined Bertrand Delanoë.

Explaining that he voted for Emmanuel Macron in 2022 to block Marine Le Pen, Bertrand Delanoë affirmed that

“the second mandate satisfies (him) less than the first”

.

“Social policy was in deficit from the first mandate. And there I think that a certain number of defects have worsened

,” he argued, pointing first and foremost to the new unemployment insurance reform that Gabriel Attal is preparing to launch.

Bertrand Delanoë, who is no longer part of any party but is a CFDT activist,

“thinks that there are surely reforms to be made”

because

“we must seek the efficiency of public spending”

.

“But especially not by attacking the unemployed

,” he argued.

Tackle on Jean-Luc Mélenchon

Expressing his

“esteem and personal friendship for Gabriel Attal”

, the former mayor of Paris (2001-2014), now aged 73, judged the debut of the prime minister, appointed in January,

“courageous”

.

“He has a lot more substance than we imagine”

but

“to be very honest, I do not share his orientation as I do not find it left-wing

,” he detailed.

Bertrand Delanoë also addressed a tackle at Jean-Luc Mélenchon, with whom he campaigned for more than 30 years within the Socialist Party, but whose recent positions he contests, in particular in the war between Israel and Hamas. According to him, Jean-Luc Mélenchon,

“voluntarily or involuntarily, fuels division and hatred”

.

“I deeply regret the waste he makes of himself because he is someone who has talent, who has culture. And as he is intelligent and has culture, he knows well when he betrays our common ideals

,” said Bertrand Delanoë, judging that LFI embodied

“a left which harms the left and harms the France"

.
