The hunt continues in Grenoble to arrest the “scooter rapist”. Public prosecutor Éric Vaillant announced on Friday the opening of a judicial investigation concerning seven facts directly attributed to the individual, who has not yet been identified. Significant means are being put in place to put it out of harm's way.
In detail, the investigating judge was seized of two rapes, committed in Grenoble on March 11 and in the town of Saint-Martin-d'Hères on March 16, as well as an attempted rape on the same day in Grenoble. At the same time, he is being prosecuted for a sexual assault and violence committed with a weapon in Grenoble on February 17, an attempted extortion in Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux on February 8 as well as acts of violence in Grenoble on February 8. On the other hand, two facts which had previously been linked to the case were dismissed by the investigators, "
the investigations carried out no longer made it possible to retain them against the accused
", specifies the prosecution.
All the victims are women aged 20 to 27. Each time, the man applies the same procedure: on his black scooter, dressed entirely in black, he follows his victims after dark when they return from a party or at home, before attacking them. The description of the suspect is a man in his twenties, European type, approximately 1m70 tall, of normal build, brown eyes, pale complexion and red hair. The dissemination of his report has already enabled the local judicial police service (SLPJ, formerly Departmental Security) to collect several dozen testimonies.
