The number of members of the Grasbrunn seniors' meeting has increased from 103 to 153 within a year. The seniors celebrated this at the “50+2 anniversary”.

Grasbrunn - The new board of the Grasbrunn seniors' club can be more than proud of this achievement: Within a year, Karin Beierkuhnlein and Gabi blessingschmid managed to recruit 50 new members. “We are now 153 and therefore one of the clubs with the largest number of members in the community,” Beierkuhnlein recently announced during the celebration of the meeting’s 50th founding anniversary, which took place two years late due to Corona. Almost all of the 153 members who came to the community center by invitation listened to their words and those of District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) and Mayor Klaus Korneder (SPD).

History: On November 8, 1972, the “Altenhilfe Grasbrunn eV” association was founded with the then mayor August Simader as chairman. In October 1973, the community gave the club a furnished "old people's room" in the old school, which was beautified and made comfortable by donations from the citizens - club life could begin. Since then, senior citizens' afternoons with coffee and cake have taken place every two weeks. After the old school was demolished, the seniors got their own “seniors’ room” in the new community center in Neukeferloh. To this day, people regularly chat, play, sing and celebrate there. From the beginning there were also gymnastics lessons, bowling, hiking days and bus trips. The so-called “BASAR” under the direction of Rosa Wiesner – housed in wooden barracks opposite the recycling center – was a helpful activity for many seniors for years. Donations in kind were accepted, clothes and other goods were sorted, cleaned, labeled, packed and sold. For 20 years, more than 11,000 packages were sent to needy people in mission stations. The profit was an important source of income for the club. Ultimately, the association was able to provide 60,000 euros for the design of a geriatric garden with a pavilion and benches in the new “Am Wiesengrund” retirement home.

Gerd Schauerbeck led the club with great commitment for 18 years

In January 2005, Gerd Schauerbeck was elected chairman of the elderly care organization, and one of his first measures was to rename it “Seniorentreff Grasbrunn”. He led the club for 18 years with great commitment and many ideas. Schauerbeck organized a wide range of events and the “SeniorenAktiv” group was also founded. Since 2013, together with the community's senior citizen representative, Anna Meschenmoser, events have been offered for a smaller group of people, such as courses with tips and tricks for smartphones.

On March 29, 2023, a new board of directors was elected with Beierkuhnlein and blessingschmid, who can immediately celebrate successes by welcoming many new members. District Administrator Göbel congratulated the association and its board on the “great community work. Anyone who is getting older here in Grasbrunn may be alone, but never lonely. These are real neighbors, a living counterpoint to the often invoked anonymity.” Mayor Korneder remembered that he started school exactly 52 years ago. “This great club, which is so important for our community, has been around for just as long. This year there are 31 dates: regular meetings, an excursion every month, a four-day trip to South Tyrol or a trip to the Christmas market are just a few of them. This is really great."

With music from Iris & Franz, the seniors had a great time at the celebration, there was a sketch and a slide show by long-time chairman Schauerbeck about 50 years of the seniors' meeting.
