There is always speculation about an end to the ARD series “Sturm der Liebe”. Alfons Sonnbichler actor Sepp Schauer knows why the cancellation could happen.

Vagen Castle/Feldkirchen-Westerham – Sepp Schauer (74) has been part of “Sturm der Liebe” since the first episode. The ARD series has been running from Monday to Friday since 2005 and would hardly be imaginable without head porter Alfons Sonnbichler. But more than once, according to rumors, the cancellation of the production was discussed. “Sturm der Liebe” veteran Sepp Schauer is now taking a stand.

“Storm of Love” too expensive? Actor Sepp Schauer talks about cancellation

The ARD format is actually one of the most successful daily series in all of Europe. But after a ratings low last year, there were not only rumors about a bad mood on the “Sturm der Liebe” set – there was even talk of a possible end. Sepp Schauer, who has been there from the beginning in his popular role of Alfons Sonnbichler, doesn't even want to think about it. But the stars also have their thoughts and know why the Daily could actually have a hard time.

“If that happens at some point, it will certainly not be because of the viewers, but rather because of the money,” he explains in an interview with

and directly provides an explanation for this assumption. “A fictional program is more expensive than, say, a cooking show. “It will always be an issue,” he says. The fact that the costs may soon no longer be affordable is something that no one in the cast wants to think about at the moment. Quite the opposite. “We are all very positive and play in such a way that you simply can’t cancel the series,” he explains with a laugh.

That has changed in almost 20 years of “Storm of Love”.

After two decades, it's not just the cast of "Sturm der Liebe" that has changed from time to time - Sepp Schauer reveals that the process on set is also a little different now - although not fundamentally. “We’re just a little faster now. Back then we shot one episode a day. We're doing the same thing today, but we now finish filming at 7:15 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. We have about twenty-five minutes per scene. “It’s really sporty,” he says, giving a look behind the scenes.

Apart from that, there are no major changes - apart from the actors themselves. “I’ve gotten older,” jokes the TV star about his 20 years of experience at the Fürstenhof. The private story of a “Sturm der Liebe” colleague reads like the script of a soap story.
