Easter is the festival of hope. With the dire news surrounding the wars raging around the world, it is difficult to be hopeful. People from the district reveal their wishes.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen –

It is the largest festival in Christianity. At Easter, believers celebrate the core of the message of the New Testament: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So the victory of life over death. Easter is also understood as the festival of hope. At a time when cruel wars are raging in Europe and the Middle East, innocent people are being killed and peace seems far away, it is not easy to hold on to hopeful thoughts. Nevertheless, hope plays a big role in everyday life. Personalities from the district reveal what gives them hope in these difficult times and what they hope for at Easter.

O Sebastian Horn (53), musician from Lenggries:

“Before the wars of this world you stand helpless and can despair. I am someone who sees what life throws at me. I try to do something on a small basis. I think it's important that you practice charity in your small circle, in your family, in your circle of friends, with your neighbors. Bringing love into your own boat, on your doorstep, I think that’s very important.”

O Josef Niedermaier (60), district administrator from Bad Tölz:

“In general, I hope for peace in the world, that would also contribute to cohesion in our society. Personally, the small, humanly beautiful things give me hope every day. Especially at Easter, I like to sit alone in a church to think. That gives me a lot of strength, and so I always go out into everyday life, into my family, with hope. Of course I hope that everything always goes well and succeeds. I also have a fair amount of trust in God. Especially at Easter, the rituals in our family, such as meeting and playing music together, give me a lot of hope.”

O Felicitas Wolf, equal opportunities officer for the district:

“I hope for real steps towards equality and less polemics. Support instead of bans. An important step towards this is to put words into action. Unexpectedly fruitful conversations, moments of solidarity and supportive people who make things happen give me hope. Because sometimes, dear fellow campaigners, even the right choice of words is an action.”

O Klaus Steinbacher (30), actor from Reichersbeuern:

“In times like these, my main hope is for more humanity. This starts in small ways, for example with friendly encounters. And that is exactly what should be transferred to the larger scale. Because from this we can draw hope for humanity at higher levels, of which we urgently need more.”

O Inge Friedl (80), artist from Bad Tölz:

“It always gives me hope to see how people get involved in other people, without it being talked about much, and sometimes quite unexpectedly. Beautiful conversations also give me hope. A conversation often triggers much more than you previously thought. Listening gives me so much strength and I always feel supported by creativity. I also think it’s important to remember the beautiful moments in life and not just focus on the negative.”

O Viona Harrer (37), ice hockey player and coach from Bad Tölz:

“What gives me hope is the belief that “bad” and “good” belong together and balance each other out in the end and that we as humans have it in our own hands what we focus on and what we use our energy for. The people who I love and who love me even in bad times give me hope, and the people who, despite difficult blows of fate, manage to maintain their joy in life and their fighting spirit. The beauty of our nature, especially the mountains, the sea and the sun, also gives me hope. Since I injured my cruciate ligament at the end of the year and my parents are slowly getting older, I wish my family and friends good health and a lot of positive energy to overcome all difficulties.”

O Cristina Burkert (43), pastor from Kochel am See:

Jesus, who himself had to suffer a lot and die a cruel death, did not remain in death. It was not violence, hatred and death that had the last word, but rather life. With the resurrection of Jesus, God allowed something to happen that no one thought possible and that is so inexplicable that we cannot imagine it in detail. The Easter message wants to tell us: It always goes on! My hope with regard to the trouble spots and problems in this world is based on this resurrection message: From God comes the strength that overcomes all darkness. My hope this year in particular is that there will always be people who are inspired by the power of God and thereby stand up for a world in which human dignity is the top priority.
