A man in Baden-Württemberg made a scary discovery in his own garden. It's not just that that concerns many people - but also a detail about the photo.
Sigmaringen - A garden find is attracting a lot of attention on Reddit: there were around 1,300 reactions via upvotes/downvotes and around 250 comments in the first 17 hours. “Did I dig up a gravestone? And from whom?” the author wants to know and posts a photo. It shows a stone hidden in the ground and two shoes on the edge. Of course, nothing in his information can be verified, but everything seems very authentic.

Interestingly, many people don't comment on the find, but on the kicks. “Did you dig up the stone in Crocs?” one person wants to know for hundreds of likes. The answer: “No, the Crocs are from my wife, who came to wash them. But I have similarly stylish footwear when I'm not digging up gravestones." The simple comment "This footwear" even gets a four-digit "like" number. Just like the reaction “Could be a good cover photo for a new horror thriller.” It sparked such creativity in one user that he even made a film poster out of it. It is certainly due to the remarkable photo that the Reddit thread attracts so many people.

A user has good eyesight and thinks he can decipher the inscription - even based on other uploaded photos. “Blessed are all who have fallen asleep in the Lord” and other lines he quotes from a linked song text. "Wow cool. That must be it. Thank you very much,” says the thread creator. This raises the suspicion that it is a gravestone.
The discoverer later added further information: “I came across this stone while digging in my garden. At first I cursed what a huge thing there was just lying under the ground. When it was finally out, I saw that the thing had an engraving. And after we washed it a bit, an inscription also came out. There is also a hole carved into the stone on the top. There may have been a wooden cross attached here. Unfortunately it's dark now and I can't decipher it. But maybe one of you can help me find out whose final peace I have disturbed.”

He also reveals the Hohenzollern Lands in Baden-Württemberg as the approximate location of the event.

Several users express their theories as to how the stone got there. “You probably didn't disturb anyone's peace here. In fact, it's not at all unusual to find old gravestones elsewhere - when graves are leveled and no one (for example from the family) wants the stones, they are often simply 'recycled'. I've seen pieces of tombstones on country paths as fortifications. It could be, for example, that someone simply used it as a bed border.” Another person chimes in: “The best comment here. In the past, it was not uncommon for relatives to take the tombstone home with them after the grave was leveled and at some point the stone would simply be buried somewhere because it had to go. Therefore it was probably cut up and was not found whole. Still pretty cool to find a stone like that on your person.”
